   Assemble the Sandwiches

   • Lay out 8 slices of bread on a clean work surface.
   • On 4 of the slices, layer the fillings in this order: 1 slice Swiss cheese, 2 slices ham, 2 slices turkey, and a final slice of Swiss cheese.
   • Place the remaining 4 slices of bread on top to close the sandwiches.
   • Press each sandwich down firmly but gently. This helps the layers compact and stick together during frying.

   Prepare the Egg Batter

   • In a shallow dish (like a pie plate) that is wide enough to fit a sandwich, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, salt, and black pepper until the mixture is smooth and uniform.

   Fry the Sandwiches

   • Place a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of butter and allow it to melt completely and start to bubble.
   • Take one assembled sandwich and dip it into the egg batter, allowing each side to soak for about 10-15 seconds. Avoid over-soaking, as this can make the sandwich fall apart.
   • Carefully transfer the egg-coated sandwich to the hot skillet. Repeat with a second sandwich if your pan is large enough.
   • Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until the exterior is a deep golden brown and crispy, and the cheese inside is thoroughly melted.
   • Remove the cooked sandwiches and place them on a wire rack. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet and repeat the process with the remaining two sandwiches.

   Serve

   • Let the sandwiches rest for one minute before slicing. This allows the cheese to set slightly.
   • Slice each sandwich in half diagonally.
   • Arrange on a plate and dust generously with powdered sugar using a fine-mesh sieve.
   • Serve immediately with a side of raspberry preserves for dipping.
