Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
In a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion for 8-10 minutes, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until the beef is no longer pink. Drain off any excess grease.
Stir the minced garlic into the skillet and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
Reduce the heat to medium. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, kosher salt, and black pepper until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
Gently fold in the drained green beans. Pour the beef mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single, even layer over the top of the beef mixture.
Bake, uncovered, for 40-45 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and the filling is hot and bubbly around the edges.
Remove the dish from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the tater tots. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the cheese is completely melted and bubbly.
Let the hotdish rest for 10 minutes before serving. This allows it to set up and makes it easier to serve.
