20-Minute Sheet-Pan Salmon & Asparagus
This 20-minute sheet-pan salmon and asparagus recipe delivers a healthy, flavorful, and incredibly easy weeknight dinner with minimal cleanup, perfect for busy evenings.
For 2 servings
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
Wash the asparagus and snap off the woody ends. On the prepared baking sheet, toss the asparagus with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper until evenly coated. Spread them in a single layer.
Pat the salmon fillets thoroughly dry with paper towels. This helps achieve a better sear/crust. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down (if applicable) among the asparagus on the baking sheet, ensuring they are not touching each other or the asparagus too much.
Drizzle the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the salmon fillets. Squeeze half of the lemon directly over the salmon. Sprinkle the salmon evenly with garlic powder, the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper. Finally, sprinkle the chopped fresh dill over both the salmon and asparagus.
Transfer the baking sheet to the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes. The salmon is cooked through when it flakes easily with a fork and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). The asparagus should be tender-crisp and slightly browned.
Remove from the oven. Serve immediately with the remaining half lemon cut into wedges for an extra squeeze of fresh juice.
What to keep in mind.
4 tips from the recipe — small details that make a real difference to the final dish.
- 1Don't Overcrowd: Ensure salmon and asparagus are in a single layer with some space between them on the baking sheet. Overcrowding steams rather than roasts, leading to soggy results.
- 2Pat Salmon Dry: This crucial step helps create a slightly crispy exterior on the salmon. Moisture on the surface will steam the fish instead of allowing it to roast beautifully.
- 3Parchment Paper is Key: Lining your baking sheet with parchment paper not only makes cleanup a breeze but also prevents the fish and vegetables from sticking.
- 4Check Doneness Accurately: Use an instant-read thermometer to check the internal temperature of the thickest part of the salmon (145°F/63°C) for perfect doneness, preventing overcooking.
