Mangosteen & Coconut Water Refresher
This Mangosteen & Coconut Water Refresher is a simple, hydrating mocktail that perfectly captures the essence of tropical flavors. With the natural sweetness of mangosteen and the refreshing taste of coconut water, it's an ideal drink for a warm day.
For 1 serving
Carefully peel the fresh mangosteens and separate the white, juicy segments. Discard any seeds.
Place the mangosteen segments into the bottom of a sturdy glass (about 12-16 oz capacity).
Add the fresh lime juice to the glass with the mangosteen segments.
Using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, gently press and twist the mangosteen segments 3-4 times to release their juices and flavor. Be careful not to over-muddle, as this can make the drink bitter.
Fill the glass generously with ice cubes.
Pour the chilled unsweetened coconut water over the muddled mangosteen and ice.
Stir gently with a spoon to combine the flavors.
Garnish with a fresh mint sprig and a lime wedge. Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing mocktail.
What to keep in mind.
4 tips from the recipe — small details that make a real difference to the final dish.
- 1Choosing Mangosteen: Select mangosteens that feel firm but yield slightly to gentle pressure, with a vibrant purple rind. Avoid fruits that are very hard or have cracked rinds.
- 2Don't Over-Muddle: A light touch is key when muddling. You want to release the juices and aroma, not pulverize the fruit into a pulp, which can sometimes introduce bitterness from the pith.
- 3Chill All Ingredients: For the best refreshing experience, ensure your coconut water, mangosteens, and even your serving glass are well-chilled before preparation.
- 4Adjust Sweetness: If your mangosteens aren't very sweet or you prefer a sweeter drink, you can add a tiny drizzle (1/2 tsp) of agave nectar or simple syrup before muddling.
Adapt it for your goals.
Sparkling Refresher
Replace half of the coconut water with sparkling water or club soda for a fizzy, lighter version.
