Simple Jamun Smoothie
This simple Jamun Smoothie is a refreshing and healthy beverage, perfect for a warm day. Blending the whole fruit ensures you retain all the beneficial fiber, unlike juicing, making it a wholesome treat.
For 2 servings
Thoroughly wash the jamun under cold running water. Pat them dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
Carefully de-seed the jamun. You can do this by making a small incision with a knife and gently prying out the seed, or by pressing the fruit to release the seed.
Add the de-seeded jamun, milk (or plant-based milk), your chosen sweetener (honey, maple syrup, or pitted dates), and ice cubes to a high-speed blender.
Secure the lid and blend on low speed initially, then gradually increase to high. Blend until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy, with no visible fruit chunks, typically 30-60 seconds.
Taste the smoothie and adjust sweetness if desired by adding more honey/syrup. If you prefer a thinner consistency, add a splash more milk; for a thicker smoothie, add a few more ice cubes or a tablespoon of yogurt.
Pour the freshly blended jamun smoothie into two serving glasses. If using, sprinkle a tiny pinch of black salt on top for an enhanced flavor.
Serve immediately and enjoy this refreshing and nutritious drink.
What to keep in mind.
4 tips from the recipe — small details that make a real difference to the final dish.
- 1For an extra chilled and thicker smoothie, use frozen jamun instead of fresh. Simply wash and de-seed the jamun, then freeze them for at least 2-3 hours before blending.
- 2Adjust the sweetness to your preference. Jamun can vary in tartness, so start with less sweetener and add more if needed after tasting.
- 3To make de-seeding easier, you can gently mash the jamun first, which helps separate the pulp from the seed, then pick out the seeds.
- 4If you don't have a high-speed blender, blend for a longer duration, pausing to scrape down the sides, to ensure a super smooth consistency.
Adapt it for your goals.
