Soursop Agua Fresca
A light, refreshing, and naturally sweet beverage, this Soursop Agua Fresca highlights the unique tropical flavor of soursop, perfect for hydrating on a warm day.
For 4 servings
Prepare Soursop: If using fresh soursop, carefully peel the skin and remove the large black seeds from the pulp. Measure out 2 cups of the clean soursop pulp. If using frozen pulp, ensure it's thawed slightly.
Blend Ingredients: Combine the soursop pulp and 3 cups of cold water in a high-speed blender. Blend on high until the mixture is completely smooth and no large chunks remain, about 1-2 minutes.
Strain the Mixture: Place a fine-mesh sieve over a large pitcher or bowl. Pour the blended soursop mixture through the sieve, using the back of a spoon or a spatula to press firmly on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard any remaining fibrous pulp.
Adjust Consistency and Sweetness: Stir in the remaining 1 cup of cold water into the strained liquid. Taste the agua fresca. If desired, add 2 tablespoons of maple syrup (or agave nectar) and stir until fully dissolved. Adjust sweetness to your preference.
Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 30 minutes to chill thoroughly. Serve over plenty of ice cubes, garnished with a fresh lime slice or wedge.
What to keep in mind.
4 tips from the recipe — small details that make a real difference to the final dish.
- 1Choosing Soursop: For fresh soursop, select fruit that is soft to the touch but not mushy, with a slightly yellowish-green skin. It should have a fragrant aroma.
- 2Efficient Straining: For a super smooth drink, you can strain the mixture twice, or even use a nut milk bag for a finer result, ensuring no fibrous bits remain.
- 3Adjusting Sweetness: Soursop's natural sweetness varies. Always taste before adding sweetener, and add gradually until it reaches your desired level.
- 4Make Ahead: Agua fresca can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Stir well before serving as some separation may occur.
