Amla & Ginger Infusion
A simple, refreshing infusion that captures the essence of amla. The ginger adds a warming, anti-inflammatory kick, making it a great way to start your day or enjoy as a revitalizing detox drink.
For 1 serving
Thoroughly wash the fresh amla berry and ginger root under cold running water. Pat them dry with a clean cloth.
Carefully grate the amla berry (discarding the seed) and the peeled ginger root into a heatproof mug, glass infuser bottle, or small teapot.
Heat 1.5 cups of fresh water until it's hot but not boiling (ideally between 80-90°C or 175-195°F). This temperature helps preserve heat-sensitive nutrients.
Pour the hot water directly over the grated amla and ginger in your chosen vessel.
Allow the infusion to steep for 5-10 minutes. For a stronger flavor, steep longer; for a milder taste, steep for less time.
Strain the infusion through a fine-mesh sieve into another mug or cup to remove the grated amla and ginger pieces. This step is optional but recommended for a smoother drink.
Taste the infusion. If desired, stir in 1 teaspoon of raw honey or a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice to enhance the flavor.
Serve warm immediately. Alternatively, let it cool completely and then chill in the refrigerator to enjoy as a refreshing cold beverage.
What to keep in mind.
4 tips from the recipe — small details that make a real difference to the final dish.
- 1Water Temperature Matters: Use hot, not boiling, water (around 80-90°C or 175-195°F) to prevent destroying heat-sensitive nutrients like Vitamin C in amla and to avoid extracting bitterness.
- 2Ingredient Quality: Always use fresh, firm amla and ginger for the best flavor and maximum health benefits. Avoid any pieces that appear bruised or soft.
- 3Adjust Steeping Time: Customize the strength of your infusion by adjusting the steeping time. Longer steeping yields a more potent flavor, but can also increase tartness; shorter steeping results in a lighter drink.
- 4Re-steeping Potential: The grated amla and ginger pieces can often be re-steeped once or twice. While the flavor and potency will be milder, it's a great way to maximize their benefits.
Adapt it for your goals.
Herbal Boost

Sweetness AdjustmentSweetness Adjustment
For a sweeter infusion, stir in a teaspoon of maple syrup, agave nectar, or a pinch of stevia after steeping, adjusting to your personal preference.
