Cucumber, Lime & Mint Water
This simple infused water recipe combines the refreshing flavors of cucumber, zesty lime, and aromatic mint to create a delicious and hydrating beverage, perfect for encouraging fluid intake.
For 6 servings
Thoroughly wash the cucumber, lime, and fresh mint. Slice the cucumber into thin rounds (about 1/8 inch thick). Slice the lime into thin rounds, removing any seeds.
Gently bruise the mint leaves by clapping them between your hands or lightly muddling them with a spoon. This releases their essential oils for more flavor.
Place the sliced cucumber, lime, and bruised mint leaves into a large pitcher (approximately 2-liter capacity).
Fill the pitcher with cold filtered water.
Stir gently to combine. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours to allow the flavors to meld. For a stronger flavor, infuse for up to 4 hours.
Serve chilled, over ice if desired. You can leave the fruit and mint in the pitcher for visual appeal, or strain them out before serving.
What to keep in mind.
4 tips from the recipe — small details that make a real difference to the final dish.
- 1Use organic produce whenever possible to avoid pesticides, especially since the peels will be infusing directly into your water.
- 2Do not infuse for longer than 4 hours with mint, as it can sometimes impart a slightly bitter taste if left too long.
- 3For a continuous supply, you can often get a second, slightly milder, infusion from the same fruit and herb by simply refilling the pitcher with cold water and refrigerating for another 2-4 hours.
- 4Adjust the quantities of cucumber, lime, and mint to suit your personal taste preferences. More mint will yield a stronger herbal note, while more lime will increase the tang.
Adapt it for your goals.
Fruity Twist
Add a handful of sliced strawberries, raspberries, or orange slices along with the cucumber, lime, and mint for additional sweetness and flavor.
Herbal BoostHerbal Boost
Experiment with other fresh herbs like basil, rosemary, or a thin slice of ginger to introduce different aromatic notes.
Sparkling RefreshmentSparkling Refreshment
Instead of still water, use sparkling water or club soda for a fizzy, invigorating drink. Infuse the fruit and mint in a small amount of still water first, then top with sparkling water just before serving.
