Sparkling Orange & Mint Refresher
A vibrant, alcohol-free mocktail featuring the bright zest of fresh oranges and the cool aroma of mint, topped with effervescent sparkling water for a truly refreshing experience. Perfect for any occasion when you crave a sophisticated, hydrating drink.
For 1 serving
Place 3-4 fresh orange slices and 6-8 fresh mint leaves into a sturdy glass (e.g., a highball or rocks glass).
Using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, gently press and twist the orange and mint together 4-5 times. The goal is to release their juices and aromatic oils, not to pulverize them.
If desired, add 1 teaspoon of maple syrup or agave nectar and 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice to the muddled mixture. Stir briefly to combine.
Fill the glass generously with ice cubes, almost to the top.
Pour 240 ml (about 1 cup) of plain or lime-flavored sparkling water over the ice and muddled ingredients.
Stir gently with a spoon to combine all the flavors without losing too much of the carbonation.
Garnish with an extra orange slice and a fresh mint sprig before serving immediately.
What to keep in mind.
4 tips from the recipe — small details that make a real difference to the final dish.
- 1Don't Over-Muddle: Muddle just enough to release the oils and juices. Over-muddling mint can release bitter chlorophyll, and over-muddling citrus can make it too pulpy.
- 2Quality Ingredients: Use ripe, juicy oranges and fresh, vibrant mint for the best flavor. The quality of your sparkling water also makes a difference – choose one with fine, persistent bubbles.
- 3Chill Your Glass: For an extra refreshing drink, chill your serving glass in the freezer for 5-10 minutes before preparing the mocktail.
- 4Sweetness Adjustment: Taste the muddled mixture before adding sparkling water. If your oranges aren't very sweet, you might want to add a touch more sweetener.
Adapt it for your goals.
