Tropical Chikoo Fruit Salad
This Tropical Chikoo Fruit Salad combines the unique malty sweetness of chikoo with a vibrant mix of other tropical fruits, creating a hydrating and nutrient-dense dish perfect for any time of day.
For 4 servings
Wash, peel, deseed, and chop the ripe chikoos into bite-sized pieces. Set aside in a large mixing bowl.
Wash and dice the apple into similar bite-sized pieces. Add to the bowl with the chikoo.
Carefully extract the pomegranate seeds and add them to the fruit mixture.
Peel and dice the ripe mango and fresh pineapple chunks. Add these to the bowl with the other fruits.
In a small separate bowl, squeeze the juice from half a lime. Add the optional honey or maple syrup and a pinch of sea salt. Whisk until well combined.
Pour the lime dressing over the fruit mixture. Add the chopped fresh mint leaves.
Gently toss the fruit salad to ensure all fruits are evenly coated with the dressing. Be careful not to mash the softer fruits.
Just before serving, peel and slice the ripe banana. Gently fold it into the salad to prevent browning.
Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and to serve chilled for maximum refreshment.
What to keep in mind.
4 tips from the recipe — small details that make a real difference to the final dish.
- 1Fruit Ripeness: Ensure all fruits, especially chikoo and mango, are perfectly ripe for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
- 2Prevent Browning: Add banana last or toss it immediately with a little extra lime juice to prevent oxidation and maintain its fresh appearance.
- 3Chilling Time: Allow the salad to chill for at least 15-20 minutes before serving; this enhances the flavors and makes it even more refreshing.
- 4Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 days, though it's best enjoyed fresh.
