Tangerine, Mint & Ginger Infused Water
A simple, elegant, and sugar-free way to make water more exciting, this infused water combines the sweet zest of tangerine, the cool freshness of mint, and the subtle warmth of ginger for an incredibly refreshing drink.
For 4 servings
Prepare the fruit and aromatics: Thoroughly wash the tangerine. Slice it thinly, removing any seeds. Gently bruise the fresh mint leaves by clapping them between your palms or lightly pressing them with a spoon to release their aromatic oils. Peel the ginger and slice it into thin rounds.
Combine in pitcher: Place the prepared tangerine slices, bruised mint leaves, and ginger slices into a 1-liter pitcher or a large glass jar.
Add water: Pour the cold filtered water over the ingredients in the pitcher.
Infuse: Stir gently to combine. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. For a stronger flavor, infuse for 2-4 hours. For maximum flavor, infuse overnight (up to 8 hours).
Serve: Once infused to your liking, pour the water into glasses, optionally straining out the solids if preferred. Serve immediately over ice.
Storage: Store any remaining infused water in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. For best taste and to prevent bitterness, remove the fruit and ginger after 8 hours of infusion.
What to keep in mind.
4 tips from the recipe — small details that make a real difference to the final dish.
- 1Don't Over-Infuse Ginger: While ginger adds a lovely zing, too long an infusion (over 8 hours) can make the water taste overly spicy or bitter. Remove the ginger slices after 8 hours for best results.
- 2Bruise Your Mint: Gently bruising the mint leaves before adding them helps release their aromatic oils, intensifying the fresh mint flavor without needing to muddle them.
- 3Use Filtered Water: Starting with good quality, filtered water will ensure the purest and best tasting infused water, as it won't have any off-flavors from tap water.
- 4Adjust to Taste: The infusion time and amount of ingredients can be adjusted based on your preference. For a bolder flavor, add more tangerine, mint, or ginger, or extend the infusion time.
